I'm presently wondering how it is someone can get through four years of high school, four years of college, three years of a post graduate degree, sit through the California State Bar (which is notoriously difficult) and still not know how to spell.

Worse, how does it not occur to you that your spelling IS bad (I get it, I'm bad at math, but I use a damned calculator or ask Google) and take some steps to correct that before you let it see the light of day?

The mind fairly boggles.

(I'm a legal secretary. BONK BONK.)

Me: [goes to court to find a document in the court file, finds error in the document, emails attorney with the error and what I think caused it]

Attorney: [reads my email, restates my explanation as her own]

Me: [thinking, Well, I would NEVER have thought of THAT! ]

Yeah. I've been doing this for... almost twenty years now that I think of it, and it's not exactly my first rodeo. End result was that the problem got fixed, but...yeah. Sometimes, it's an exercise in biting my tongue while herding cats. XD

...in other words, I'm on vacation until Monday, praise the deity of your choice [here]

So far, I've been spectacularly unproductive, but I figure, that's what vacation is, right? :D I've gotten some writing done on Chapter Nine (which is turning out to be a challenging, but fun, chapter) and I've been (apparently) an excellent lap for the cats, but that's been about it. I was going to make bread (which I like doing) but couldn't find the attachment for my mixer---so maybe I'll try to find that.

Or not.

This is the first time I've taken intentional time off (as opposed to, you know, being sick enough to stay home and/or almost be admitted to the hospital) since I transferred. I am really hoping I don't walk into a buzzsaw come Monday, because I've got one cow-irker who seems to be holding some unspecified grudge against my existence, and a supervisor who pretty much told me not to piss her off because she didn't want to hear about it while I was out. Mmmkay. Let's hear it for adults handling their shit like adults, shall we? And yet, I'm still on probation, so there's not a lot I can say until that's done.

But this is the situation---I have the time on the books, I *need* a bloody vacation, and yet...I'm worried even now that I'll be punished for not being there even though I did everything I could to make sure I wasn't leaving work for someone else to handle.

I've been off work for almost all of last week due to a kidney infection. It's a mixed bag-- I absolutely feel better, and I am ready to go back. But I've got a colleague who is a Martyr's Martyr and who always comes to work when she's sick and is judgy af about those who use stay home. And that is just not on. I can ignore her, for the most part, but I hate that the dynamic is such that she feels she HAS to make a big thing about how she comes to work when she's sick. (Evil Me would like to see her try that at some of the temps I ran last week---she wouldn't have tried it either.)

Regardless...here we are. Excelsior, as Stan Lee would say. I have a job to do. She just has to deal.
